Who We Are
Effective Altruism Denmark is an Almen Forening steered by passionate volunteers and guided by its members. Everyone aims to make a positive impact, but lots of ways of doing good are ineffective. Our core goal is to answer the question: How can we use our time and money to help others the most?
Our Practical Mission
- Fundraising for top charities: We are committed to raising funds for the world's most pressing challenges. Our sister organisation, GivEffektivt, raises millions of DKK for the most evidence-backed, high-impact global health interventions.
- Channelling talent to important issues: Our ambition is to direct talent towards the world's most neglected issues. Through our specialised programs, career courses, and one-on-one career guidance.
- Shaping well thought-out policy: We advocate for policies that address the world's most critical problems. Our focus includes ensuring the safe development of AI, preventing future pandemics, optimising the effectiveness of development aid, and addressing the ethical concerns of factory farming.
Why Does Impact Vary So Much?
In the vast landscape of charitable endeavours, not all projects are created equal. Historic endeavours, such as the development of the smallpox vaccine or The Green Revolution, have saved hundreds of millions of lives. On the other hand, initiatives like PlayPumps have faced criticism, despite receiving a $10 million grant from the Clinton Foundation.
From these observations, several guiding principles emerge:
- We must rigorously assess the impact of interventions intended to benefit others.
- Our focus should be on the most cost-effective strategies.
- We ought to prioritize the most pressing issues.
