About Effective Altruism
How Can We Use Our Time & Money to Help Others the Most?
The effective altruist community believes that when doing good, we should use evidence and reason to guide us. Effective altruists aim to consider all causes and actions, and then act in the way that brings about the greatest positive impact.
Radical Empathy
Moral consideration should extend beyond traditionally recognised groups to encompass a broader range of entities. It emphasizes the importance of identifying and valuing all beings and entities, regardless of their differences from us.
Scope Sensitivity
A willingness to make decisions based on a comprehensive understanding of impact and scale. It involves choosing ways to improve the world based on systematic evaluation rather than personal biases.
Scout Mindset
The search to see the world as it truly is, not as we wish it to be. Consider other views and cognitive biases, and be willing to update our view based on new information.
